Tyrone woman goes viral by mistakenly rescuing a fox thinking it’s a dog

When Andrea Athie saw an injured “homeless dog” begging for help while driving down a deserted road.

The skinny dog was saved by Andrea after she pulled over, but she was heartbroken to see that the poor animal was suffering from a broken leg. Andrea immediately brought the dog to the closest veterinary facility for assistance after realizing that he may have been ran over.

The appreciative “dog” cuddled with his rescuer and showered her with kisses as they traveled to the veterinarian. Andrea was shocked to learn that the puppy wasn’t even a dog when she got to the clinic. The veterinarian revealed to Andrea that the timid and submissive baby was actually a wild coyote!

The coyote was in terrible form and his inside wounds were causing his health to worsen. To get the sick coyote the attention it needed, the vet clinic got in touch with a wildlife rehabilitator. Sadly, despite his best efforts, the coyote died from his wounds after spending 5 days in the wildlife hospital.

Andrea is utterly heartbroken and is haunted by memories of the sweet car journey with the adoring coyote. The knowledge that our wildlife never receives timely medical care absolutely hurts our hearts. Let’s treat our creatures with more compassion and empathy and get them the professional treatment they require. Spread the word.
