Dolphins saved a terrified puppy from drowning in a Florida waterway

Dolphins are perceptive, intelligent mammals that are regularly praised for helping both humans and other animals in distress. They are known for being entertaining, but they can also be unpredictable and guarded. Numerous stories describe dolphins defending people from predators or guiding ships through hazardous seas.

Dolphins in the area of Marco Island, Florida, intervened to save a small cinnamon-brown terrier that got trapped in rough canal waters. When a pod of dolphins came into view, the small dog must have had difficulty staying buoyant.

The dolphins approached the terrified dog by swimming over to it and began to circle and bark at it. Locals in the neighbourhood were curious about the commotion and made their way to the edge of the canal to investigate. Thankfully, they came upon the tiny dog struggling hysterically in the water while being surrounded by dolphins.
One of the dolphins was seen using his snout to poke the tired dog on the water’s surface, and another dolphin was seen swimming underneath the dolphin to help it stay afloat. The dolphins appeared to know just what to do to keep the dog alive and attract attention so that people could assist in rescuing the canine from the deep ocean.

The onlookers quickly called the fire department. The roaring floods were about to drown the poor little puppy, so the first responders sprang into action to save it. While administering first aid, the firefighters estimated that the unhappy critter had been underwater for 15 hours.

The dolphin pod that saved the lucky dog after it had the foresight to call for help is without a doubt to thank for its survival. Not to mention the brave firefighters that volunteered to help.
